My Mind Matters Therapy was born out of empathy, clinical insight, and a passion for ensuring that no one feels invisible or unheard due to communication challenges.
As a speech pathologist, founder Amelia Griffin became passionate about reducing loneliness and improving communication for older Australians after watching Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds in 2023.
Inspired by the series, she began volunteering in residential aged care, where she witnessed firsthand the profound impact communication has on quality of life.
There, she met many residents living with dementia, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and other neurological conditions who found it increasingly difficult to communicate. Amelia saw how communication challenges could affect confidence, relationships, and participation in everyday life.

During this time, Amelia trialled a range of communication supports and AAC tools while working closely with residents and their families.
She realised that every individual had different communication needs, making it difficult for aged care providers and schools to rely on multiple fragmented systems.
Amelia set out to create one flexible, personalised platform that could adapt to a wide range of communication needs, making it easier for services to support more people with a single tool.
A Defining Moment
A resident living with Parkinson’s disease once told Amelia:
“Don’t waste your time on me. My mind doesn’t matter anymore.”
She explained that people rarely waited for her to finish speaking because her speech was slow and she often couldn’t find the words she wanted to say.
Those words stayed with Amelia. She wanted every person she supported to know the opposite was true—that their mind did matter. That belief became the foundation of My Mind Matters Therapy.
Those words also inspired her to develop tools that support both communication and the cognitive skills behind it, including word retrieval, language comprehension, memory, and attention.
Rather than waiting for someone else to create the right solution, Amelia designed her own communication and brain training apps alongside the people who would use them.
As more people began using the apps in therapy, at home, at school, and in aged care, Amelia saw the positive impact they had on confidence, communication, and participation.
Inspired by these outcomes, she made it her mission to make the technology accessible to more people across Australia. Today, My Mind Matters Therapy supports individuals, families, and organisations nationwide, with growing interest, including from the United Kingdom.

“Amelia’s mission remains the same: to reduce communication inequality by creating innovative, evidence-based speech pathology resources and technology that help every person communicate with confidence and know that their mind matters.”
